Attaining divine masculine through divine feminine

Moving From Mind To Heart

By Emmanuel Dagher, October 2011

What Is 'Really' Happening Right Now?

Hi my beautiful friend, What a powerful month September has been! The loose ends have & are still being tied up, the preparations have been made, and the chords to the out-dated fear matrix many have still been holding on to are now being severed. With so much inner and outer transformation happening, it's only natural to feel a bit disoriented and ask questions like "What is really happening right now?"

A Preface

Long ago, there was a global society that co-existed in peace, with core foundations based on love, openness, respect, kindness, service, and unity. This society thrived, because most of its inhabitants honored both the Divine Feminine & Divine Masculine energies within themselves and each other. The balance between the feminine & masculine energies each person embodied was reflected in the balanced world they had created.

Then, a movement began. This movement was one of great forgetfulness. From one generation to the next, people began to disconnect from remembering who they really were. They forgot that they were literally Divinity in physical form. They forgot that they were Goddesses & Gods who could instantly create & un-create whatever their heart desired. Instead, they began to get caught up in the illusion of third dimensional density. This illusion was highly fueled by the need to survive. So, life became less about conscious creating, and more about surviving. And so, the lower collective projections of the feminine & masculine energies were formed.

The Collective Projection of Feminine & Masculine Energy

*Disclaimer - When speaking of feminine or masculine energy, we are not limiting it to one gender or the other. There are many men who anchor a great deal of feminine energy & there are many women who anchor a great deal of masculine energy. We are looking past the physical identities & stories we've created for ourselves, and communicating on an energetic level.
Throughout the 'Great Forgetfulness' period as I like to call it, we as a collective began to paint a picture of what we thought both the feminine and masculine energies represented.

We began to project on to the masculine energy that it represents the energies of domination, control, manipulation, greed, and competition. And, that’s exactly what we manifested into our collective experience. It became all about an “us vs. them mentality.” This type of reality heavily revolves on looking outside one's self for fulfillment.

At the same time, we began to collectively project on to the feminine energy that it represented weakness and inferiority, while carrying the responsibility to remain mute. And, that’s exactly what we were manifesting into our collective experience. For thousands of years, we have seen women and men continue to be oppressed from being their true full self. Of course, this was all part of the role we created for ourselves so that we could collectively play the game of forgetfulness.

An important thing to note is that no matter how deep it seemed we fell into our forgetful period, there's always a part of us that has never forgotten who we really are. This part of us is our Spirit. Our Spirit knew that eventually throughout different lifetimes & experiences, we would one day fully learn all the lessons we signed up for and come around and remember our Divinity once again.

Anchoring the Highest Aspects of Feminine & Masculine Energies

For the past few decades, an epic healing and releasing of our out-dated projections towards the feminine and masculine energies that date back thousand of years has been occurring at lightning speed.

Many are now remembering and anchoring the highest aspects of both the feminine & masculine energies with themselves once again, which in turn is completely shifting the collective consciousness.

What do both the sacred feminine and sacred masculine energies represent in their highest forms? The feminine energy is all about nurturing and anchoring the Divine Spark within all existence. The feminine energy is the powerful force that manifests from the invisible into the visible realms through the gifts of creativity, love, beauty, and nurturing. The masculine energy is all about vision, intent, & action. So combined, the feminine & masculine energies bring forth Divinity into physical form.

Divine Mama Waits No More

Although it may be manifesting in many ways for people right now, what 'really' is happening is a great remembrance of the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine Energies, and a re-balance between the two. For so long, our planet had allowed the lower (collectively projected) aspect of the masculine energy to control everything. This lower masculine aspect within each of us was controlling our thoughts, actions, monetary systems, governments, religions, and the entire world itself. Then, a great turning point happened. People collectively decided that there absolutely had to be another way to co-exist than living in a fear-based world dominated by masculine energy. So, with a Divine unconscious (conscious for a few) decree by humanity, the Divine Feminine within each of us listened and re-awakened. Wow!

How is the anchoring of the Divine Feminine showing up in our lives? Just take a look around and you will notice it everywhere. Let's begin in our personal lives. Women & men who have allowed others to control them, whether it’s in their marriages, friendships, or work partnerships are no longer tolerating this type of behavior anymore. They are standing up for themselves and stepping into their authentic power! Many people are also feeling a strong pull to redefine their purpose in life. They are no longer settling for anything that doesn't make their heart sing. This redefining of purpose could leave many people a bit confused and frustrated, however just know that because there is a great inner shift happening right now, soon each person will have the clarity they need when it comes to living out their highest purpose.

Many men who used to embody a great amount of the old masculine energies are now quickly realizing their old ways are no longer allowed to continue forward. These men (and some women who embody high amounts of masculine energy) are having a really tough time transitioning out of their old masculine identity, because they are still very much in their mind. However, they are being given the opportunity to embrace, love, and unite with the Divine Feminine energy so that they can embody a new blueprint of the Divine Masculine Energy. Therefore, the new Divine Masculine represents an equal balance between both feminine and masculine energy. The Divine Masculine is less about being in the mind, and more about being in the heart.

Another shift happening right now is that many women are noticing many of the men who embody the Divine Masculine energies in their lives are treating them like Goddesses. These men are feeling guided to embrace, pamper, honor, and cater to women in ways many have not in a long time. To those ladies (and some men) receiving this special attention, I suggest you fully give yourself permission to enjoy and receive it, because it has been long overdue, and is part of the balance that is coming in at this time. By allowing the masculine energy to honor you, you are in turn honoring the masculine energy.

Globally we are seeing the exact same thing happen. All systems that were once based on the lower aspect of masculine energy are having to either completely re-invent themselves by integrating with the Divine Feminine, or they are dismantling before our eyes. We can see evidence of this in the Middle East, Africa etc., the monetary systems, the shifting of governments, and the way people are doing business. There are so many conscious businesses forming with a greater intention of serving the world, instead of the old prototype of taking from the world.

Embracing the Divine Feminine Within

If we are someone who is really struggling at this time (whether we are female or male), it could very well have to do with the fact that we are not fully embracing the Divine Feminine within ourselves. There are many ways to do this. Getting creative through dance, arts, music, and healing are highly recommended. Also, making sure to nurture our physical, emotional, and mental bodies will allow us to ride the wave of the Divine Feminine energies pouring in at this time. Each person has their own unique form of self nurturing, whether it’s breakfast in bed, taking a day off work to spoil yourself, meditation, etc... nurturing ourselves is an essential part of anchoring the Divine Feminine energy within in the world. As we nurture ourselves, we begin to naturally nurture the world around us, and that my friend is a very beautiful thing to experience.

Till next time,

Miraculously yours,

Emmanuel

Men and Patriarchy

Joe Ondrak on Men and Patriarchy

Why increased suicide rates among men is a feminist issue

Men are taught to bottle up emotions and feelings. To show such things is considered ‘feminine.’ Feelings are ‘girly’ and just for women. Except anger and happiness (but not so much happiness that you cry, then it’s ‘girly’ again)… so mostly anger. Men are allowed that.

Society teaches that women feel, while men do.

So men feel trapped and unable to express emotion or seek help. When they try confide in friends, the most common response is to ‘man up’ – they are policed by other men into thinking that not being able to deal with emotions on your own makes you lesser. That they are falling behind in manhood by having to seek help with whatever issue it may be.

Men are unable to seek help because they are policed and shamed into thinking that ‘real’ men don’t need it. That ‘real’ men do – and anything else is to be lesser.

So… what does that say about attitudes to women?

When we change the attitude that emotions, ‘feelings,’ and that women are below men - men will be able to open up and seek help without the fear of shame.

I’m writing this for a number of reasons. First of all, I was watching an interview with comedian Stewart Lee about university funding and The Arts last night which got me thinking. Second, a friend of mine has been attempting to fight the good fight against the bastion of ‘banter’ (or, more accurately, the stalwart of sexism) that is the Facebook page ‘LADbible.’ Finally, after enjoying Reddit.com for over a year, I’ve recently become a member of the subreddit group ‘ShitRedditSays,’ which calls out posters from all over the site on misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic language and general bigotry. Some of the points I’ve read about the mindset of those who post that kind of hate speech (because, let’s face it, that’s what it is), tie in nicely with some of the ideas swirling around my head relating to ‘Lad Culture’ and the points raised by Stewart Lee.
In his interview, Lee posits that “the withdrawal of the [university] grant and the implication of student loans necessarily limits people that want vocational careers, and produces a generation of people who feel that the only purpose of education is to earn money.” [1] Signs of this are already in place and have been for quite some time now. Think about how often a news report on colleges and universities uses the term ‘Soft Science’ to describe Psychology and Sociology, or the now well-worn stereotype that those in Liberal Arts courses should get used to serving fries. If you go round a modern university campus and ask people why they enrolled, the answer will more than likely begin with “Because I wanted to get a career in…” rather than “Because I wanted to learn more.” The attachment of earning and the ‘value for money’ to courses in university has lead to a clear and well-enforced divide: Pick a course from a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and you’ll land a job, study a Liberal Art and you’re as good as flipping burgers or serving lattés already. This kind of mindset removes any inherent value to a course if it does not give the student any promise of financial gain at the end. Philosophy is looked down upon by both students and society as being a dense but airy subject where people sit and ineffectually think about ‘life’ – I recall the famous story in a newspaper where a question on a Philosophy paper was “Why was the chair on top of the table?” and the highest mark in the class went to a student who said “Because someone put it there.” – Which, for anyone who has seen a Philosophy exam paper, is of course is utter nonsense and completely made up. Even so, this subject, which was once the premier battleground of world-shaping ideas, has become the butt of jokes in the tabloids because of its liberal connotations.

The problem arises because, while there is no doubt that STEM subjects are intellectually challenging, they don’t encourage people to think critically. There is no way for them to access the mindset of challenging social hierarchies, questioning the culture we live in or to learn about social criticism. Tragically, this mindset appears to be reserved only for ‘sensitive’ liberal subjects, meaning those attempting to campaign for equality are already at a disadvantage by being painted as ‘too caring,’ ‘too emotional,’ or for guys, ‘too feminine’ and therefore their opinions aren’t rational (believe me, I’ve heard these arguments against me plenty of times). As a result, students entering STEM fields remain enrolled in our patriarchal society, not questioning it, but more likely enjoying the benefits it provides (because, let’s face it, if you’re complaining about inequality, then you should have picked a course that would lead to a real job [2]).

The STEM fields are incredibly male-dominated, with only three in twenty-five graduates in an Engineering course being a woman, only 20% of women who graduate a STEM course landing a job in a related field, and a woman’s self-esteem and confidence in their ability continually diminishing throughout their course solely because of their gender [3]. Of course then, male students who are in this system of learning, encouraged to be there by a patriarchal and capitalist society and afforded all the privileges of said society, are going to embrace such a culture with open arms. This is where ‘Lad Culture’ comes from.

Rather than a campus of thinkers and readers who enjoy a toke and occasional night out to blow off steam, we have a university system inundated with men who have little time for intellectual thinking and conversation, who only want to learn to finish their course and get a job. This shifts the vibe of the campus to one which encourages massive nights of binge drinking and getting ‘rowdy with the lads’ for the want of a better phrase. The disdain with which the STEM culture looks at the liberal encourages an amplified reaction in the other direction, with sexist and racist viewpoints being excused as ‘banter’ to wind up and bait the ‘loony left’ and ‘sensitive’ liberals. Being the golden boys of a patriarchal capitalist society, they reinforce, exaggerate, but most importantly perpetuate the oppressive discourse set up by the culture that raised them. They do this while being told it’s right and those who are offended are wrong and ‘can’t take a joke,’ ensuring they don’t question why their ‘Lad Culture’ pisses some people off (after all, social criticism is for ‘sensitive left-wingers’ who are just bitter because it’s not a real subject that’ll land them a real job [4]). They are further encouraged by the emergence of ‘Lad’s Mags,’ such as Nuts orZoo, catering to this culture through the objectification of women, sweeping generalisations about genders, homophobic and transphobic rhetoric. These magazines, with covers that differ little from softcore porn, normalise such behaviour even further – their uncensored place on our newsagent stands galvanising a ‘Lad’ attitude even further.

But by far the most dangerous enforcer and normaliser of ‘Lad Culture’ is ‘The LADbible’ and similar Facebook pages. Such pages are a perfect and terrifying example of what happens when a patriarchal and capitalist society dissuades young men away from a liberal, conscientious mindset, essentially tells them that they will always be right and that their privileges are a birthright, and then leaves them to regulate themselves. Rape culture and domestic abuse become amplified sources of endless jokes and hilarity, women are objects to be judged no matter what (you treat a woman as a human being, you’re either ‘whipped’ or ‘gay’), racism okay as long as it’s a ‘hilarious’ stereotype that’s ‘funny ‘cos it’s true,’ so on and so forth. I could go on, but this is the ugly face of ‘Lad Culture’ that anybody reading this will already be familiar with.

The problem here though is that due to the influx in male STEM students and the universities need to cater to them, ‘Lad Culture’ is becoming the default setting in UK higher education. Men enrolling in liberal courses which encourage critical thinking are often finding themselves sooner indoctrinated into the ‘Lad’ mindset, joining in with the ‘banter’ of their friends and regarding what should be a fantastic educational opportunity and chance to expand one’s own mind as just another hoop to jump through to get a piece of paper that’ll mean a job. I once overheard a fellow Literature student on my course say “I’ll just make up some bullshit about women not being equal, we all know Feminism is what [the lecturer] wants.” Nowadays, university is just a holding pen for these young men, encouraged to carry on being misogynistic, told that it’s just another step to a career and that conscientious thinking isn’t a ‘valuable’ skill; all this because we were told that a career and money matter more than an academic mind. And you know what the scary part is? Because the STEM ‘Lads’ are deemed more employable, soon we’ll have ‘Lads’ making laws, leading and being in control.

Misogyny breeds misogyny, bigotry breeds bigotry.

RIP thinkers.

(Also, good on qu and her boyfriend for attempting to educate LADbible on why ‘smashing’ a woman probably isn’t a good idea.)

One of Tyler Durden’s repeated catchphrases throughout Fight Club is “it is only after you’ve lost everything… that you’re free to do anything.”1 It is one of many refrains that hammer home the anti-consumerist theme within the text which, with Tyler’s charismatic delivery, becomes an attractive prospect to both the book’s characters and readers alike. However, there are many cues that call aspects of this freedom into question. For example, how free can one be while having to adhere to the now iconic rules of fight club, and the somewhat more sinister rules of Project Mayhem? Also, women are conspicuous in their absence throughout the novel. With fight clubs - the gateway to this promised freedom - being exclusively men-only, are women allowed freedom in Tyler’s vision too? Because of Fight Club’s strict gender division, any hope of freedom is effectively denied from the very beginning, at least through the avenues explicitly given to the books unnamed Narrator. It is only through an endeavour to bridge this gap that any freedom or redemption is achievable.
This gender division is established quite early on in the novel through the use of spaces that our Narrator inhabits in order to cure his insomnia. The support groups for the terminally ill are meant to be read as a feminised solution to his problem in contrast to the masculine fight clubs2: one being a passive form of relief through self-destruction (pretending to be terminally ill) and the other a far more literal direct approach. This is exemplified by his attendance to the testicular cancer support group, “Remaining Men Together.”3 The name alone suggests a masculine struggle, since testicular cancer means potentially losing what is regarded as a universal symbol of masculinity: Remaining Men Together can be read as what remains of them is still men, although because of the use of testicles as a signifier throughout history and culture, they are men sans masculinity. It is here where we first encounter Robert Paulson, or ‘Bob’ as he is informally known.

Bob lost his testicles to cancer and due to a hormone imbalance of too many testosterone supplements grew breasts “that hang enormous, the way we think of God’s as big.”4 It is between these huge breasts that our Narrator finds his first respite from insomnia. Jesse Kavadlo sees this as an indication of Bob as a mother figure as he “uses his enormous breasts, hugs, and love to give the Narrator his release, allowing him first to cry, and then to sleep, both infantile needs.”5 However, it is interesting to note that Palahniuk chose to equate Bob’s breasts with God, as it fits with Kavaldo’s interpretation of Bob as a provider for man but twists our notion of a western masculine God, turning both Bob and God into mother figures. This reading then ties in with another prevalent theme within the text, the lack of a model of masculinity in postmodern society. In this society, men such as Bob, who uphold an ‘ideal’ for the masculine form can be viewed as divine avatars in the sense that God created Man in His image. But the pageantry and feminine performance of Bob’s lifestyle are inherently emasculating, highlighted more so by the hormone abuse that cost him his testicles and caused him to grow breasts. Both Bob the former bodybuilder who men looked up to as he “practically invented… the whole how-to-program about expanding your chest,”6 and God are stripped of their masculinity, causing a “generation of men [to be] raised by women.”7 However, while Bob at Men Remaining Together was a shy, constantly crying “big moosie,”8 once he substitutes the gentle and sensitive therapy of the support group with the frenzied and zealous therapy of fight club, “Bob’s breasts move from mothering to smothering”9 as the explicitly masculine surroundings change Bob’s performance from remaining a man to reclaiming his masculinity.

However, the fight clubs, Tyler or the events of the book would not have happened if it were not for Marla Singer. Palahniuk is quite explicit about this in the very first chapter, stating though the Narrator “I know all of this… is really about Marla Singer.”10 This quotation, on first reading, seems almost throwaway. We, as readers, soon forget about it once we are swept up in the Narrator and Tyler’s high-octane hi-jinks. But it is Marla’s first appearance that is the catalyst for the events that follow. We first encounter her at the same time we encounter Bob. Just as our Narrator fakes terminal illness at the support groups, so too does Marla who after working so long at a funeral parlour finds a catharsis in being so close to “a real experience of death”11 compared to a funeral’s “abstract ceremony.”12 Unfortunately for our Narrator, her being there holds a mirror up to his own immorality in being a ‘faker’ too, rendering him unable to sleep again. However, we later find out that this bout of insomnia is when Tyler chooses to take control and run amok, meaning we can attribute the Narrator’s creation of Tyler with the appearance of Marla. This makes sense if we consider Paul Kennett’s reading that “Her appearance, especially in the testicular cancer group, produced the Narrator’s pre-existing doubts of the “manliness” of group therapy.”13 In the film adaptation, she bluntly questions this “manliness” while arguing with the Narrator over who should attend the group: “technically, I have more of a right to be there than you. You still have your balls.”14 The irony being that compared to Bob at Men Remaining Together, Marla is arguably more masculine, both emotionally by being cold and not crying, and physically by having smaller breasts and unkempt hair (as opposed to Bob’s “so thick and blond and the part is so straight”15 mane). This may well be the moment that plants the seed in the Narrator’s mind that becomes his alter-ego, Tyler Durden.
The Narrator states “I love everything about Tyler Durden… Tyler is funny and forceful and independent, and men look up to him and expect him to change their world. Tyler is capable and free, and I am not.”16 On face value he is - if we take into account why he came into existence –ideally ‘manly,’ the opposite of those men at their support group. But beneath that, he is ideally patriarchal.

As Tyler is a construct of the Narrator’s psyche, he is reactive against elements of the Narrator’s life which he sees as passive and unmasculine. This primarily manifests itself through Tyler’s anti-consumerist beliefs that “advertising has these people… working in jobs they hate, just so they can buy what they don’t really need.”17 echoing the Narrator’s observation that he “wasn’t the only one slave to my nesting instinct. The people I know who used to sit in the bathroom with pornography, they now sit in the bathroom with the IKEA furniture catalogue.”18 The idea that masturbation with pornography (a stereotypically male activity) has been infiltrated by not just consumerism - but furniture (home furnishing and decorating being seen as typically feminine) - highlights Tyler’s concerns over the ‘feminising’ of men in a postmodern consumer culture. With Tyler being reactive compared to the Narrator’s passivity, he establishes the first fight club as a group therapy for men struggling with the capitalist and consumerist world. It is a way for them to reclaim masculinity rather than remain men.

In the fight between Tyler and the Narrator which lead to the creation of fight club, a number of readings are apparent. For starters, the fight itself is essentially one man beating himself up. The fight can be seen as an act of self-flagellation, a masochistic way for the Narrator to pay penance for the lifestyle he was beginning to hate and the beginning of his new life with Tyler. This bleeds over into fight club, with the rules stating a dress code, and as Kennett observes; “The Narrator is careful to illustrate how the men standing in the bar basemen in the dim pool of light are identically clothed without shirts and shoes, how they assume the same habits of grooming, with short hair and nails, all mirror images of each other. Each fight is therefore an occasion of fighting one’s self.”19 More important though is the conversation between the two after the fight:

Instead of [fighting] Tyler, I finally felt I could get my hands on everything in the world that didn’t work… the bank… my job… my boss… And Marla Singer, who stole the support groups from me… Nothing was solved when the fight was over, but nothing mattered… I asked Tyler what he’d been fighting. Tyler said, his father.20

The fight enabled the Narrator and Tyler to confront failed masculinity and patriarchy. The former is able to fight the monotony of his previous lifestyle which led him to become the passive man he was up until this point, as well as Marla who usurped his position at the support groups and forced him to question his masculinity. The latter is fighting his non-existent father (what with Tyler himself being non-existent), claiming he never knew him. On the surface, this is a lashing out at the absence of a masculine role-model and traditional patriarch, and when the Narrator reveals that he knew his father “for about six years, but I don’t remember a thing,”21 we can view Tyler’s disdain as an extension of his own. However, the Narrator then goes on to say “My dad, he starts a new family in a new town every six years. This isn’t so much like a family as it’s like he sets up a franchise.”22 From this, it seems as though the Narrator is not only criticising his father’s actions, but the attitudes of the entire “Baby Boomer” generation who left him “foot[ing] the bill for nuclear waste and buried gasoline tanks and landfilled toxic sludge dumped a generation before [he] was born.”23 But it is not the environmentally destructive aspect of capitalism that he is criticising, it is the effect it had on the established pillars of patriarchy and the knock-on effect that had on masculinity through the avenues of corporatism and consumer culture. Just as the Narrator’s father set up a ‘franchise’ family in each town, leaving him without a patriarchal father figure and masculine role model, the rich male businessmen who established free-market capitalism used consumerism as a new way to establish patriarchal control, essentially ‘franchising’ it and leaving men without clearly defined masculine roles. This is manifested in his observation that “the gyms you go to are crowded with guys trying to look like men, as if being a man means looking the way a sculptor or an art director says.”24 The role models for masculinity in this consumer society are signifiers for marketing, made more explicit in the film adaptation with the Narrator recalling this line while standing in front of a Calvin Klein underwear advert, leading to bodybuilders like Bob whose muscles have no real function – a lifestyle that symbolically cost him his testicles.

This displacement of patriarchy from focalised ‘traditional’ points, such as fathers, to signifiers and products in a patriarchal consumer culture, allow us to read Tyler’s attitudes as somewhat Oedipal. Kennett applies Jaques Lacan’s “Name-of-the-Father” model to Fight Club, enabling a complex Oedipal/patriarchal subtext to be examined.

Jaques Lacan’s theories consider the role of the father in the Oedipal complex as a linguistic signifier…not limited to the presence of a particular father in body… but is present and exerts its influence from the symbolic fabric of reality via historical, cultural, media and commercial narratives… Lacan quips that since the identity of one’s father is never certain, culture has inherited, via religion, the ideological construct of a father… In reality this function is so intimately central the customs, rituals, institutions of our reality that the father will prevent the narcissistic enjoyment of the infant and establish the law necessary for socialization. 25

If we consider the comparisons made by the Narrator between attending fight clubs and church, how “There’s hysterical shouting in tongues like at church, and when you wake up Sunday afternoon you feel saved,”26 we can see how fight clubs are a mode for men to reconnect to this ideological construct of father: not through God at church, but through the other participants of fight club, the idea of ‘men worshipping men’ still remains. This sentiment is illustrated perfectly by the Narrator when he talks about how a kid working at a copy centre became “a god for ten minutes when you saw him kick the air out of an account representative.”27 However, while fight club is seen as a temporary release and a way to reclaim their masculinity for the participants, where “Nothing was solved when the fight was over, but nothing mattered28,” for Tyler it is the beginning of fulfilling his Oedipal goal of asserting himself as a new patriarchal father figure.

As fight club becomes Project Mayhem, the Narrator begins to view Tyler as the father figure his life was lacking. The initial fight, as well as self-flagellation, is an act of Tyler as father imposing his anti-consumer law on the Narrator for the first time. He also acts a masculine, patriarchal role-model, the Narrator observing that “men look up to him,”29 including himself. But while Tyler gains followers through promises to “Deliver [them]… from Swedish furniture… from clever art… from being perfect and complete”30 with a lifestyle which appears to celebrate male equality from capitalist patriarchal controllers, he in turn takes their freedoms while establishing himself as their new controller. They, Kennett writes, “become the sons of the Father who make possible Tyler’s status as lawgiver, lord and punisher.”31 This Oedipal desire of Tyler’s followers, who once in Project Mayhem are referred to as space monkeys, calls into question the prospect of any freedom that might be gained through their actions as the name itself is based on the first animals sent into space. Early in the book while on top of the world’s tallest building, the Narrator says “It’s so quiet this high up, the feeling you get is that you’re one of those space monkeys. You do the little job you’re trained to do. Pull a lever. Push a button. You don’t understand any of it, and then you die.”32 He first equates the space monkey mindset to cubicle jobs similar to the one he used to do, the idea of being a ‘cog in the machine.’ However, once it gets applied to Tyler’s followers – as a permanent name, no less – we can see that they have been shifted from one system of patriarchal control to another, while still being kept in the dark (the first and last rules of Project Mayhem are to not ask questions and to trust Tyler).

Tyler’s goals in Project Mayhem extend far beyond the initial ambitions of fight club, which successfully established a way for men of a consumer culture to reclaim their masculinity. Tyler, by way of Project Mayhem, instead seeks to not only punish the current patriarchal consumer culture through vandalism, but to ultimately destroy the history creating that culture and regress to a primitive state of clearly masculine ‘hunter-gatherer’ roles: “to return “civilization” to a point where the narratives of privileged masculine dominance are still intact, where the God still walks among His people and recognizes them with his gaze.”33 In order to do this, he takes control of the Narrator’s body, travelling the country to set up new fight clubs and establish a web of Project Mayhem cells.

By doing this, to the Narrator, it appeared as though he has left to ‘set up franchises,’ just as both his own father and patriarchy had done. There is an obvious hypocrisy in Tyler’s actions, and his desired outcome, while at first appearing to directly oppose the current system of patriarchy, only restructures it. To fund Project Mayhem, Tyler makes incredibly expensive soap from human fat, becoming part of the consumer culture. In fact, he doesn’t make the soap himself, but instead has the space monkeys do it, effectively enslaving them with his promise of freedom from consumer culture – a culture they are now, under him, feeding into and no longer benefitting from.

Tyler effectively establishes himself as an oppressive god/father figure for the space monkeys. They recite his words as mantra; one space monkey, distinguished as ‘the mechanic’ informs the Narrator “I see the strongest and smartest men who have ever lived… and these men are pumping gas and waiting tables”34 without a hint of irony to the fact that he is travelling to steal fat to make soap for no pay. Once he ‘leaves,’ they also enforce his law and perform his punishment, which is a fittingly Oedipal castration for anyone who interferes with Project Mayhem’s plans, although we as readers only ever hear of threats of castration (stripping the victim and tying an elastic band round their testicles, only to snip the band off and let them go35). Even when the Narrator tries order the space monkeys to stop, his words as Tyler are more assertive than his own mouth (but Tyler’s image) ordering the opposite. The Mechanic, reciting Tyler’s teachings, makes explicit his logic to the Narrator when he states:

All a gun does is focus an explosion in one direction. You have a class of young strong men and women, and they want to give their lives to something. Advertising has these people chasing cars and clothes they don’t need… We have to show these men and women freedom by enslaving them, and show them courage by frightening them.36

Here, Tyler equates his rule as a gun. By enslaving and frightening those under his rule, the explosion of their anxieties will be Project Mayhem’s acts of vandalism and violence against consumer culture, which reads more like a new patriarchy removing the old than an act of liberation. Interestingly, this is the only time Tyler mentions women in his goals, his misogynist streak is highlighted if we read the last line of this quotation against his suggestion to “put these men in training camps and finish raising them”37 only nine lines beforehand. The implications behind this are alarming to say the least, as enslaving the women and training the men seems to be nothing more than a revenge fantasy for his belief that we have a “generation of men raised by women.”38

However, ultimately it is women, or mother figures, that hold the most power. For the Oedipal reading to function properly, a mother is required. In Fight Club, the mother switches between two characters who, when we first encounter them, appear to be complete contrasts: Bob and Marla. As mentioned at the start of this chapter, Bob is the Narrator’s initial mother figure. He is able to give him the release required to fend off his narcolepsy and enables him to cry to find release. This is blocked by Marla who, at the time, represents a troubling masculine foil to Bob’s mother. Once the Narrator finds Tyler to be his father figure, and Bob’s participation in fight club strips him of his qualities as mother, Marla begins to fill the role. She is, on the surface, not a fitting candidate as mother at all, explicitly eschewing maternal duties by telling Tyler she “wanted to have [his] abortion,”39 as a way of initiating sex. This linking of sex and death places her more in the femme fatale camp, as Cynthia Kuhn notes “Marla has unmistakable femme fatale traits; she is urban, alluring, threatening, nonmaternal, and antidomestic – even her last name is sirenesque.”40 Though Marla only fulfils this role for Tyler.

Due to the fact that she sees the Narrator and Tyler as one person – more importantly, just as Tyler – she is unwittingly flirtatious with both; the Narrator spurning or ignoring her and Tyler having sex with her whenever the Narrator is asleep. Because of this, the Narrator begins to view Tyler and Marla as a couple who “Except for their humping… are never in the same room,”41 crucially making the connection that “This is exactly how my parents were invisible to each other.”42 As well as adding to the Oedipal subtext, this scene may also tell us something about the Narrator’s attitude to sex; Tyler only capable of seeing Marla as a sex object and the Narrator only capable of seeing her as otherwise. The Narrator/Tyler’s dual personality is what enables him to deal with Marla’s sexuality. In being two people, he is able to view her as the two patriarchal roles for a woman; both mother and whore. However, at this point, the Narrator rejects Marla as mother. This may be due to her outwardly nonmaternal qualities, appearing as almost a second father. She mirrors his goals and Tyler’s attitudes towards self-destruction such as employing her own self-deprecating mantras43 and rejecting traditional consumerism in favour of thrift-store clothing. Tyler even shows begrudging admiration by remarking “At least Marla’s trying to hit bottom;”44 a barbed comment to the Narrator who feels he is being usurped by her. This impression of her changes at what can be considered a turning point in the narrative: Bob’s death.

When Bob is shot on a ‘homework assignment’ for Project Mayhem, for the Narrator, it is Tyler as father/god figure causing the death of his original mother figure (further backed up by the space monkeys’ refusal to listen to him, but obey Tyler’s orders). This causes him to go to Marla for guidance and accept her as the mother figure in her relationship with Tyler. However, the Narrator has to come to terms with the repercussions of him and Tyler sharing a body – that he, technically, had sex with Marla. At this point, the Oedipal and femme fatale narratives of Marla work together: the son she had sex with becoming the agent by which the father is murdered. This happens during the climactic scene at the top of the Parker Morris building where the Narrator is held hostage by Tyler. Marla interprets the scene as a suicide attempt, forcing her to admit “I think I like you,”45 which the Narrator sees as a cue to kill Tyler with a gunshot through his own cheek, resulting in a “jagged smile from ear to ear”46 – a horrific image of happiness due to the destruction of the damaging patriarch. Unfortunately, precisely because of this, the Narrator ends up punished by the law of the father, living out his days in a mental institution where the orderlies are all enforcers who refer to him as “Mr. Durden”47 and inform him that “everything is going to plan.”48

What we have at the end is an illustration of the pervasiveness and danger of a patriarchal order. In Project Mayhem, Tyler succeeded only in removing the consumerist element of today’s patriarchy, increasing its harm and oppression in the process. The pursuit of father figures and patriarchs is shown to be a destructive alternative to passive equality which is, ultimately, far less successful in bringing any sense of freedom. Marla, as the lone woman, is shown to be just as strong as Tyler, succeeding in living outside consumerism and finding her own freedom and relief in its society. Eventually she enables the destruction of Project Mayhem’s mastermind and becomes the conduit through which the Narrator is able to free himself from a patriarchal oppression. Finally, as Kuhn observes, “not only is Marla the catalyst for the narrator’s split into Tyler, but she is also the catalyst for his split from Tyler,”49,” meaning our Narrator’s statement that this is “really about Marla Singer”50 is truer than even he realises.

Male and female inner balance

Shiva-Shakti male-female balance

Connecting to your inner boy and girl

Channelled by Pamela Kribbe, 18 October 2007, Tilburg

Dear friends,

Thank you for being here today. Together we celebrate the New Era. It is present already and it is growing and evolving because of your inner transformation. You are the forerunners, the pioneers who help birth a new consciousness on earth today. In the present stage of your inner transformation, there is still much confusion inside of you. You have one foot in a new reality, a new way of conceiving and experiencing things. But the other leg is 'in suspension’, in a vacuum so to speak. It cannot get back to the old and familiar ways, but at the same time you are frightened to make the whole switch and go forward with both feet on new ground. This new paradigm of consciousness is unknown territory and it does not seem to resonate yet with the outside world, the traditional values and habits which you learned at school or at home.

A large part of society still seems to embrace old and worn out belief systems, fed by fear or the need to control. But a lot is changing and much that was self evident before is tumbling down and falling apart. In western societies, many people experience a lack of meaning in their lives. People have also started to pay much more attention to the inner aspect of what happens around them. They are interested in psychology and spirituality. They are less focused on mere external success and material wealth. Especially in affluent societies, people discover that success and material wealth do not necessarily create true happiness and real contentment. Success is different from fulfillment. You will feel truly fulfilled in your life when you are able to connect with and express your own soul energy. That is what creativity essentially is: discovering what your soul energy is about and expressing it on earth through your own unique gifts and abilities. This is what makes you truly happy inside, warm and radiant. And at that point you will touch others and they get to see who you really are: an angel of light. You have then become an angel who consciously brings light to the earth realm that is so often overshadowed by illusions which prevent you from seeing the inner light in every living being.

You all have chosen to be here to give shape to your soul energy on earth. Especially in this stage of history, you are not solely here for yourself. Your inner development is such that you have much to share with others. Presently, much is happening on a global and planetary level. Huge shifts of energy are taking place and can affect you in your daily life. Whenever people are changing their consciousness and start to think differently, when they ask new questions and doubt the existing order, they are inviting a new energy into their lives. A new dynamic will enter that more often than not drastically alter your lifestyle and circumstances. Now, part of you wants this and is constantly trying to achieve it. But other parts of you resist the new and do not want to go along so easily. These are the most fearful and distrustful parts of you. The inner tension and conflict that results, causes a split in your consciousness, and in the consciousness of millions of people who are in the same process. This can cause the atmosphere around the earth to be heavy with resistance and tension at times. It is resistance towards change and movement, and it is part of being a human being. Even if you live a very conscious life, you can be affected by this heaviness, because at some point it resonates with fears and doubts that you have not let go of.

How do you deal with this inner conflict and how do you let go of old fears and belief systems? How do you connect to your own soul energy and find a way of expressing it in the world? Today I would like to approach this question by talking a little about the balance between the male and the female energies within you.

Every soul has access to both the male and the female energy. Essentially, the male energy has to do with the aspect of manifesting yourself outwardly, in the material world. Male energy is related to focus, discernment and the power to act. It enables you to take up space, to be an ‘I’ with clear boundaries. The female energy is naturally inclined to turn inwards, to the inner dimension of things. It is related to feeling, inspiration and transcending the boundaries of ‘you’ to connect with others. The female energy is flowing and receptive and when combined with the male energy, it leads to the highest form of creativity. Balance between the two enables you to realize your highest potential.
The feminine energy is in a sense the energy of the unmanifested, the realm of the potential. It is also the source of true inspiration B heartfelt desires that spring from your soul. Your feminine energy is the bridge to your soul. Your soul is formless. Just feel this. At this moment you experience yourself as having a body that enables you to be part of this reality. You have eyes, hands and you are either male or female. But you can feel that although this way of being is now a part of you, it is not all that you are. You are that which ensouls the body, the form. You bring it to life from within. But you, in your essence, are formless, you are pure consciousness, one and undivided. Feel the freedom and bliss of it! Feel how you, as consciousness, are totally independent of your body and that you have freely chosen it to be part of this reality for a while.

You have temporarily merged with your body for a reason. You are here because you want to be here. The flowing, unbound energy of the female wanted to enter into a dance with the male energy of manifestation and form. The male energy enables the soul to enter and experience this specific physical reality. It helps the soul to express itself creatively in this particular realm of earth. The masculine and feminine energies are the building blocks of creation and if both play together in peace and joy, they bring forth beauty and fulfilment.

However, in many of you the masculine and the feminine have become artificially separated and they are not working well together. Roughly speaking, you can either have too much male energy or too much female energy. If there is a surplus of male energy, the female energy gets suppressed and there is too much focus on manifestation in the outside world and being recognized and valued by others. You are cut off from your soul energy, the living flow of feelings and emotions which constantly tries to tell you what you need and truly want. If you are identified too much with the male energy, you are caught up in the expectations and demands from the outside world. Essentially, you are driven by insecurity and you try to handle that insecurity by forcing yourself to comply with standards not your own. You do not feel truly safe and nurtured by your female energy and seek to establish an external sense of safety by being competitive and controlling. All of this makes you very dependent on how others think, feel and act. Disconnected from your unique inner guidance, you get a tense and anxious ego that constantly needs recognition and wants to be in control all the time. It lives by a false image of power that suffocates the soul.

People who are overbalanced towards the male are afraid to surrender to the formless, flowing nature of the feminine energy. In your society, that as a whole has a surplus of male energy, this fear is apparent from the fact that people are neurotically busy all the time. They hardly take time for themselves, spent freely without a purpose. Everything seems to have to be ordered and planned, with an almost compulsive efficiency. Also, when you long for something and you truly feel you would like a particular change to happen in your life, you want to act upon it immediately. You often do not take enough time to let an idea or purpose grow and evolve and gradually be birthed in your reality. It is like an organic process. The inner dynamics which are set in motion once you set your intention to do or have something, are governed by an natural rhythm that you cannot force or control. Because of a dominant, or disconnected male energy you are inclined to think and worry far too much. Your thoughts jump up and down like crazy. This leads to a general restlessness, a sense of emptiness and lack of inspiration in your life. You are not really trusting your feminine energy. She seems to want to head in a very different direction than you. Your emotions tell you for instance to let go of things, take time for yourself, and communicate more openly to others. At a certain point, you will not be able to ignore this call of your soul anymore. If you try to live solely from the male energy, you are heading for a crisis in some form, whether it is illness or some other discomfort. This crisis will essentially be an opportunity to find a new balance between the male and the female in your life.

What happens when the female energy stands too much on her own and does not sufficiently connect to the male? As opposed to a tense and controlling ego, this will lead to a weak and wobbly ego. Being overbalanced towards the female means that thing easily are ‘too much’ for you. You are reacting to other people’s energies in a highly sensitive way. It is hard to say no and set clear boundaries around yourself because the male energy of taking up your own space does not seem available to you. It is hard to even know what you want as you get easily drawn into other people’s moods and desires. Having a surplus of feminine energy means that you are empathic and that it is easy for you to understand what other people feel. You are also capable of going deep into your own emotions and moods, but you feel unable to really express yourself emotionally and creatively in the world. You have insufficient access to the male energies of self‑consciousness, standing up for yourself and feeling centered and focused. The female energy, which is naturally flowing and receptive, needs to be anchored to a well defined ‘I’. This is what the male energy can give to her, if the female part is willing to trust him and let go of her fear to be a separate ‘I’ with its own needs and clear boundaries. This is feared by the female energy in many people, especially women, because women are taught that it is a good thing to be sensitive, sweet and compliant (whereas men are taught that it is right to be tough and competitive). But if they do not develop that male ability to be centered into one’ s own being, their creative energy will be squandered and fragmentised. Their soul energy will not get adequately expressed and this creates sadness in the soul, causing melancholy and depression.

This era asks for a rebalancing of the male and the female energies. It is important to realize that the female is in a sense basic or primary. I do not mean this in the sense of ‘better’ or ‘higher’. The feminine and the masculine relate to each other as represented in the yin‑yang symbol: both are equal and complementary. But the feminine energy within you is the bridge to your soul, your formless essence. By connecting to your female aspect, you open yourself up to your deepest inspiration and you get in touch with your purpose of being here.

Just imagine that you are now connecting to your female energy. Imagine that she is seated in your heart. Feel a soft, warm energy in your heart that is very familiar to you, very close to who you are. You feel that energy in your heart and now imagine that she creates an opening at the back of your heart. From there she connects with light, the light of Source, the light of your soul. Take a moment to feel this. Perhaps you are seeing angel like figures or guides, it does not matter what you see. You just need to feel the presence of loving, cosmic support, the presence of Home. This is how you channel your soul energy. Just sense the lightness and lucidity of that energy. It enters your heart and now you may notice how close we actually are to you. We ‘from the other side’ are part of a reality that runs right through yours. You are actually a part of that other reality right now. Your greater or higher self is there now while it merges with you on earth.

Now imagine that you are calling upon the male energy inside of you. You ask this energy to help you ground and connect your heart energy fully to the reality of earth. Feel the power of the male energy gently and easily flow into your arms and legs. It creates clarity in your being, self confidence and focus. You feel how it anchors your heart energy to your body and to earth. The masculine energy gives you the qualities of courage, discernment and stability. Realize that your male aspect loves to connect with the female aspect in this way. It wants to serve the female energy, to enable the soul energy to embody itself in time, space and matter. Protected and enveloped by the male energy, the feminine energy feels safe and joyful. Feel how heaven and earth connect inside of you.

We go a little further on our inner journey. Imagine you are now walking through a beautiful forest. The sky is deep blue. It is autumn and the trees are starting to lose their leafs. Yet the sun is still warm on your skin. You enjoy walking there and after a while you notice a nice spot to sit down for a moment. Perhaps there’s a bench or a soft spot beneath a tree. You sit down and become quiet. You breathe consciously and let go of any tensions you feel in your body. You feel how the earth carries you. You become still and peaceful within. Then you hear the sound of gay children’s voices in the air. It moves you and makes you smile. You notice two children are walking towards you. They are a boy and a girl. And they walk towards you in a determined way, for they want to give something to you.

They are now standing next to you and their faces look happy and carefree. Then the girl steps forward and gives you something. It may be a thing but it doesn’t have to be. She may also simply radiate something by her presence or with her eyes, reminding you. What is she reminding you of? What quality is she vibrating as she looks you in the eye? What she gives to you energetically is more important than what she physically hands to you. Absorb her energy and thank her. Then ask her to sit down next to you on your left side. You now focus on the boy, who also wants to give you something. You look at him and you receive his gift. It may be a symbol, an object or a feeling, or maybe he simply touches you and you know. You feel his message and take it in. You thank him and invite him to sit down at your right side.

Feel how these children are a part of you. They are always by your side to remind you of who you are. Their original qualities belong to you. Now take their hands, holding them in your lap, and let everything inside of you that feels old and worn out, dissipate. Fear, worry, gloom, just imagine how the earth opens up and takes it from you. It becomes neutral in her womb. Allow the new and fresh energies of the children to enter your energy field and bring back to you your zest for life and your childlike sense of magic and trust. When we come return to the present in a moment, you do not have to let go of these children. They are a part of you and they keep alive your original inspiration. Any time you feel tense, uncomfortable or dissatisfied, you can connect to these children. They can let you know how to rebalance yourself. When you go to that forest again, or any other spot you like, you may see just the girl or just the boy wanting to address you this time. Trust whatever your imagination comes up with. Just keep it light and playful. This is not supposed to be a serious exercise. It is just play. It is a means of connecting to the powerful core energies of the female and male within.

You are all working to create a new balance between these two energies, which have become so alienated and misunderstood in your society. Anytime you reconnect the two and recreate that balance within, you radiate this out to others and help bring about a lighter and more loving consciousness on earth. We thank you for this. We love you deeply.

Male and female energy

By Jeshua

Channelled by Pamela Kribbe, 2005

Dear friends, it gives me great pleasure to be with you again. I am so glad to be in your company. You have a tendency to look up to me, or to beings like me, as masters but we do not see it that way. We see you following your path on earth at a challenging time, a time when much is changing, and we see you growing towards your own mastery. We see you becoming the masters that you still look up to at times. And this is what it is all about B finding your own mastery! Do not follow any master that is brought before you by tradition or by books or by anything someone else is telling you. Find your own mastery B that's what it's all about.

Today I would like to speak about a theme that reaches back far into your history: the energies of the male and the female. These are old energies and a lot is going on with them right now.

First I would like to say something about the nature of the male and the female. These energies are two aspects of the One. They therefore are not really opposed or dualistic, they are one; they are two faces of one energy.

The male energy is the aspect that is outwardly focused. It is that part of God or Spirit that drives outward manifestation, that makes Spirit materialize and take form. The male energy therefore knows a strong creative force. It is natural to the male energy to be highly focused and goal‑oriented. In this manner the male energy creates individuality. The male energy allows you to separate yourself from the One, from the Whole and to stand alone and be a specific individual.

The female energy is the energy of Home. It is the energy of the Primal Source, the flowing Light, pure Being. It is the energy that has not yet manifested, the inner aspect of things. The female energy is all encompassing and oceanic; it does not differentiate or individualize.

Now, imagine the energy of the female becoming aware of a certain movement inside of her, a slight restlessness, a desire for reaching out, outside of her boundaries, moving outside of herself to attain experience. There is a longing for something new, for adventure! And then an energy comes to her that answers that longing. It is the male energy that wants to be of service and help her manifest in matter, in form. The male energy defines and shapes the female energy and by their cooperation the total sum of energies can take a completely new direction. A new reality can be created in which everything can be explored and experienced, in ever changing forms of manifestation.

The dance of the male and the female brings forth the fluctuating spectacle of created reality, of your creation. This is a spectacle of great beauty wherein the male and female energy worship each other and celebrate their cooperation and playful joining. And this is as it should be. The male and female energy belong together, they are two aspects of the One and together they celebrate the joyful manifestation that Creation is supposed to be.

It has been said that in the final realization of who you are, the only truth that matters is: I AM. And in this mystical mantra, precisely those two aspects merge. In the I is the male energy, in the AM is the female energy. The I is constricting, differentiating. It gives focus, it gives direction, it individuates: I, not the other, I. And then AM. AM is oceanic, all encompassing. It reflects the ocean of Home, the female energy, the inexhaustible source that knows no bounds, no differentiation. The flowing and joining aspect is the core of the female energy. In the I AM, the male and female come together and blissfully join their energies.

Now in the history of humanity and even before humanity existed, a conflict arose between the masculine and the feminine. I shall not go into the origin of this conflict now. But in your history there is a drifting apart of male and female energy so that they appear as opposite forces. The yin‑yang symbol demonstrates the true situation very well. In the masculine there is always a core of the feminine, and in the feminine there is a core of the masculine, just as there is a white dot in the black and a black dot in the white. But in the course of history, this mystical unity of the masculine and feminine has been forgotten and these energies have become opposed to each other as black and white. The underlying unity was no longer recognized.

Right now, you are in the last phase of this history of conflict, in which the male energy has played the part of perpetrator for many centuries. The male energy has long been playing a part in which it oppresses, mutilates and destroys the female energy. It was not always like that. There have been times in which the female energy had the upper hand and wrongly manipulated and ruled the male energy. But that time is over. The conflict took a different turn at a certain point and the roles of perpetrator and victim were reversed. The male energy has been in power for a long time now and has misused this power in such a fashion that the female energy has been weakened and does not realize the integrity of her Being anymore. Whenever the masculine and feminine are in conflict, the disintegration of both is inevitable. Where the feminine gets victimized more and more and gets lost in self‑denial, the masculine energy loses itself in ruthless violence and the kind of aggression you know from the many wars in your past.

The masculine and the feminine depend on one another. When they battle each other, the consequences are disastrous. But times are changing. Since the 19th and 20th centuries, the female energy is regaining its strength and rising above the role of victim. This resurrection comes from deep within the feminine energy. She has finally reached the outer limit of her self‑denial. At this point she has looked herself in the face and has stated: this is as far as it goes.

By the way, this is how it always goes in the dynamic between victim and perpetrator. Change starts when the victim refuses to accept any more. The perpetrator could well hang onto his role for a longer while, for he has less of a reason to stop. Revolution starts where the victim refuses to accept any more and finally takes back her power. In all situations of repression, for example of women in their family or in society, the real moment of change is when the woman ‑ or the feminine energy within a person ‑ decides for herself: I will not take this any longer. This is when change truly starts to happen. External measures are useless until this moment presents itself.

The female energy has arisen and its star is rising. Actually the most urgent matter in this time and age is the transformation of the male energy!! It is now time for a new definition of male energy. I could have easily called this channeling 'the rebirth of the male energy.' For I want to stress that it is only in reunion with a matured and balanced male energy that the female energy can flourish again.
The female energy has in the past century and even before that regained power and strength. It has begun to flourish in a new and more balanced way. Despite the inequality of the sexes that is still present in your society, the rise of the female energy is unstoppable. However the female energy cannot gain full strength and vitality without cooperation with the male energy. This goes for the collective level as well as the individual. The female energy cannot make its final breakthrough without the support of and connection with the male energy. This is not because of an inherent weakness in the female energy. It is because of the essential nature of male and female energies: the fact that they are intertwined and can only fulfill their brightest potentials in cooperation. This is why it is imperative now that the male energy reshape itself and venture into the new!

When you look at the interplay between male and female on a collective level, the female energy is now in a position of waiting. She is waiting. At present there is a struggle going on within the collective male energy between the old and the new. A new wave of energy is dawning within the collective male energy that honors and respects the female energy. This new wave of male energy wants to join with the female and together enter the New Age. But at the same time an older wave of male energy is still active and trying to persist. This energy is clearly working in the series of terrorist attacks that has taken place all over your world. The male energy in its old role of heartless aggressor is thereby showing its nasty side. In the ones who commit these horrendous attacks there are very dark emotions: aggression, anger and at the same time utter powerlessness and helplessness. It is from this utter helplessness that they appeal to the most brute and destructive types of power display. This male energy we are speaking of is in its death agonies. It senses that there are important changes going on collectively and that humanity is on the threshold of a new era.

One of the problems you are now facing, while growing towards a more balanced cooperation between male and female, is how to deal with this kind of ruthless energy. What are we going to do about this old male energy that is trying to create as much havoc and destruction as possible in its downfall? Let me tell you this: its downfall is a fact. The struggle has been lost by the old male energy, but it will not surrender easily and it will resist to the very last with aggression and merciless attempts at domination.

Much will depend on how the inner collective attitude will be to these aggressors. Will you allow anger and powerlessness into your own energy field as a reaction to acts of violence? Then you open up to the energy field of the aggressors. At the very moment you feel overpowered by anger and resentment toward them they have reached their target. You are then sucked into their energetic vibration and you would be willing to kill as well: kill the murderers of the innocent. This is all very understandable, but is it vital to realize what's happening here. As soon as there are intense emotions rising up, it is wise to make a pause, in silence. Go back to the quiet, knowing part of you and ask: what is really going on here? It is all about your wisdom and discernment now, your ability to see through things and to feel what really is at stake. The world will not be taken over by terrorist powers; the old male energy has served its time and its dying hour is at hand.

The most important message I have about terrorism, this manifestation of old male aggression, is: stay conscious! Do not let yourself be taken off‑center by emotions of powerlessness, i.e. by getting victimized. Know that no one will be touched by this aggressive energy if they do not allow it into their energy field. If you do not react with anger or hatred, you will not draw it to you. You will be safe and protected by your own light.

I now would like to pay attention to the more mundane individual level, the level at which you deal with the male and female energies within yourself. For on the individual level as well there has been a struggle between the male and the female energies. Everything that happens collectively mirrors processes at the individual level.

To illustrate the importance of balance between the feminine and the masculine on the individual level, I will speak of the energy centers in every human, which are also called the chakras. There are seven of them that you know of now and these are located along the spine, from the tail bone to the crown. I will go into all of these chakras briefly, to show you that they are all characterized by either a predominantly male or female type of energy.

The tail bone (root) chakra is the energy center that connects you to the earth. The energy in this chakra reaches out to the earth and allows you to manifest your soul energy in physical form on the dense, material level of reality. In view of the reaching out and manifesting type of energy in the tail bone chakra, you may call it a predominantly male chakra. A chakra is never completely male or female, but one may say that the male energy has the upper hand here.

The second chakra is called the navel (belly button) chakra and it is the center of emotions. This center allows you to experience emotions, mood swings, in short all the highs and lows of emotional life. It is a receptive center. That is why I call it a female center, a chakra in which the female flow of energy dominates.

The third chakra, also called the solar plexus, is a center of action and creation. This is a center which reaches out and allows energy to manifest in physical reality. You may compare it to the sun, the outpouring of rays and the power of the yellow sunlight (the natural color of the third chakra is yellow). In the solar plexus your thoughts, ideas and desires are transformed into outer manifestation. It is the chakra of action and outward expression. It is also the seat of the ego, meaning the earthly personality, without negative implications. The predominant energy is male.

The heart chakra is a receptive center like the navel chakra and it has the special ability to connect different flows of energy. It is the center in which the energies of the lower three chakras (earth reality) and the upper three chakras (cosmic reality) connect. The heart is the bridge between mind (head) and emotion (belly). From the heart you are also able to connect with others and transcend yourself. The heart transcends the boundaries of the ego and enables you to feel oneness with anything outside of you, even with All That Is. The heart chakra is the gateway to the energy of Home. It is clearly a center of connection and it is therefore predominantly feminine.

The throat chakra is male. From this center inner promptings, ideas and emotions are given physical shape through speaking, crying, laughing, singing, yelling etc. Here the inner life is expressed outwardly by communication through the voice and through language. This center enables you to make your inner life known to others by means of physical signals: words, sounds, concepts. It is a center of manifestation that enables you to focus your energy outwardly into the physical plane. It is also a center of creativity.

The sixth chakra, also called 'the third eye' which is located in the middle of your head, is feminine again. It receives extra‑sensory, intuitive impressions and transcends the boundaries of the physical (the five physical senses). It is the seat of clairvoyance, clairsentience, etc. Through this center you can feel the energy of someone else B the emotions, the pains, the joys B as your own. With this ability of empathy, you transcend the boundaries of the ego and you connect with 'that which is not‑you.'

Finally there is the crown chakra, on top of the head. This chakra is neither male nor female. Or you might say: it is both. In this chakra, you rise above the duality of male and female. The crown chakra is an interesting combination of both energies. When this chakra is balanced, the consciousness therein is in a state of receiving as much as reaching out. There is a reaching 'upwards' to other dimensions, where it seeks spiritual meaning or support, or to deeper layers of the Self. And at the same time there is a quiet and tranquil receptiveness, a knowingness that the answers will come in good time. It is a type of consciousness that is both highly focused and highly receptive. In this 'state of mind' you come very close to the unity that underlies male and female energies, the energy of Spirit or God.

I have now sketched very roughly the movement of the male and female energy flows throughout the energetic body of the human being. Now I wish to speak of the lowest three chakras in particular. These are the chakras that are most connected to the earth, that are most involved with being in the earthly realm. This area of the lowest three chakras is of utmost importance in your inner road to healing, for in this area lie the deepest traumas and emotional scars.

You often feel you are earthly beings opening up to the spiritual. But we see it the other way around. You are spiritual beings opening up to the earth. The earth is a brilliant destination, a hidden diamond that has yet to reveal its true beauty. The earth is the Promised Land!

Heaven is your birth place. But you will not return to the state of consciousness that you remember as 'Home' or 'Heaven,' to a state of purely spiritual being. The adventure of Creation brings you to new destinations; you are always expanding and progressing towards a wholly new type of consciousness. (We have spoken of this before in the last chapter of the Lightworker Series). Earth is an essential part of this journey.

However in your manifestations on earth and your attempts to express yourself there, you have suffered much pain. Almost all of you have severe emotional wounds in the lowest three chakras caused by experiences of rejection, violence and abandonment. This may have happened in past lives as well as in this lifetime. Almost all energy blocks in the upper chakras are related to emotional hurts in the lowest three chakras.

I will say a little about the tail bone chakra first. Your connection to the earth has become emotionally burdened, especially for lightworkers. Because you have met with grave resistance over many lifetimes, there is much fear and reserve in you when it comes to truly grounding yourself. Grounding yourself means being fully present in your earthly bodies and expressing your innermost inspiration in material reality. The resistance to grounding yourself fully has been discussed before (in the Lightworker series). It has mainly to do with you 'being different' and having been rejected for it.
In the second chakra, the emotional center, you have also been affected deeply by experiences of being threatened or deserted (literally or emotionally) and by being severely restricted in your self‑expression.

With these traumatic burdens in the lowest two chakras, the solar plexus (third chakra) is also heavily affected. The solar plexus has to do with life force, creative energy and power. You know few examples of what true power means. With this I mean power that is not aggressive and destructive. In the solar plexus chakra you often see that a person manifests himself or herself either in an aggressive, controlling way, or in a subdued, overly modest way. Both ways are the result of underlying feelings of helplessness, stemming from a wounded first and second chakra. In the third chakra it is all about finding a balanced way of dealing with power and control, it is about a balanced ego.

Ego is okay! The ego has a proper function; it lends focus to your consciousness which enables you to create and manifest as the separate individual that you are. Yes, you are part of a greater Whole but you are also 'I,' separate and different from anyone else. The ego is a necessary complement to the spiritual part of you that transcends the 'I.' The energy of the ego is fully honorable and justified in the energetic reality that you live. True power is in the joyful alignment of ego and Spirit.
The area of the lowest three chakras is the most important area in self‑healing and inner growth. The greatest spiritual challenge to you now is to take care of this wounded area in yourself. Meditating to transcend physical reality or connect to elusive cosmic levels is not your main goal now. Your goal is to give your gentlest understanding and loving support to that hurt inner child within you and to restore its beauty and playfulness. This is your spiritual journey; herein lies the greatest treasure. Cherishing and respecting the human side of you, the child part of you, is your road to divine compassion and enlightenment.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that within this energetic area, two out of the three chakras concerned are male. This shows that especially with regard to the male energies within each of you, much healing work is to be done. Therefore my message to you now is: heal the male energy within! The feminine energy is in many ways recovering and acquiring the strength needed to express itself fully and beautifully. The female qualities of intuition, sensitivity and connectedness are being appreciated more and more, individually as well as collectively. But it is not so clear what a balanced male energy truly looks like. The male energy somehow got lost in false images of what it means 'to be a man,' stereotypes that always boil down to power through aggression. It is vital to recognise and express the true nature of male energy. The female side now needs the balanced male energy to be able to truly fulfill her role. The female energy is waiting, not just at the collective level but also on the individual level. The female energy is getting out of its victim role, regaining its self‑esteem and it is now wanting to manifest itself powerfully and joyfully through reunion with the male.
So, what then is the power of balanced male energy? This goes for the male energy in both men and women.

In the first chakra, a healed and balanced male energy leads to self‑consciousness. The male energy does not have to fight and struggle anymore, it is present through self‑consciousness. Presence, i.e. being fully present with all of your soul, is an essential quality of the first chakra. Being present self‑consciously means to stay aware of yourself, remaining centered, not getting lost in someone else=s opinions, expectations or needs. It is about finding the balance between connecting with others and being true to yourself. A balanced male energy in the tail bone chakra allows you to remain centered and aware of yourself while you interact with others and the outside world.

It is essential to develop this quality of self‑consciousness, for it will protect and guide your female energy. The female energy is naturally inclined to connect with others (other living beings) and to be present with the other in a caring, nurturing way. The male energy makes for boundaries and helps find a balance between giving and receiving. With regard to the flowing, connecting female energies, the male energy in the lowest chakra fulfills the role of anchor and backbone. It is the point of coming home to yourself, the point of releasing ties to other energies you have connected with.

The solar plexus or third chakra fulfills the same role in a different way. This chakra is, as I said before, the energy center of the ego. You still have trouble with this concept of the ego. Especially among lightworker souls, there is a tendency to look upon the giving, self‑transcending energies in the human being as 'higher.' But it is not so. You live in a world in which two energies play together and form the building blocks of Creation. One tends to connect and seek for unity, the other creates separation and individuality. And the latter energy is just as viable and valuable as the former one.
It is important to make peace with the male energy, to embrace your individuality, your uniqueness, your 'I‑ness.' There is an essential 'aloneness' in life which has nothing to do with loneliness, but which has everything to do with you being an 'I,' a unique individual. To embrace this aloneness does not stand in the way of experiencing deep connections to others. If you truly embrace your individuality, you become an empowered, independent and creative individual able to share your energy deeply with anyone or anything, because you are not afraid to lose yourself in it or give up your individuality.

The male energy of the solar plexus helps you become truly creative and empowered. That is what the female energy in you is waiting for. Your heartfelt inspiration wants to make itself known on the material level, it wants to come out in a very earthly manner and bring tidings of love and harmony to the earth. The female energy is the carrier of the New Age but it needs a balanced male energy to truly manifest itself and grow roots into material reality. That is why it is of such great importance that the energies of the first and third chakra are healed.

The energy of a healthy ego, the healed solar plexus, is self‑confidence. In the first chakra it is self‑consciousness, in the third chakra it is self‑confidence. This is not the kind of arrogance you see in an inflated ego. It is about simply trusting yourself: 'I feel that I can do it!' It is being aware of your own deepest inspiration, your own creative abilities and then acting accordingly. Let your energies flow out of you, trust your natural talents and gifts, trust who you are and show yourself to the world! Especially for you lightworkers who carry so much inner knowledge and wisdom, it is now time to show yourself and not hide anymore. It is time. This is your destination and in this you will find your greatest fulfillment.

Make peace with the male energy within. Do not hesitate to stand up for yourself, to receive abundance and to take good care of yourself. Be egotistical, in the pure and neutral sense of the word. You are an ego, you are an individual. You cannot and need not be forgiving and understanding all the time. It is not spiritual to tolerate everything and anything. Clearly there are moments at which you have to say 'no' or even 'farewell' and not compromise who you are. Do this without guilt or fear and feel how the male energies of self‑consciousness and self‑confidence empower you to let the delicate flower of your female energy flourish and shine.

It is all about the cooperation between the energies. Male and female energies have gone down together in a long and painful struggle. They will also rise together, for one cannot be balanced without the other. Now that the female energy is ready to rise from the ashes of humiliation and repression, there is an urgent need for a rebirth of the male energy. This rebirth of the male will become visible on a collective scale eventually, but it will first manifest in each of you separately, man and woman. You all are the keepers of these ancient energies within you, and it is your birthright to make their partnership equal and joyful.
